#023 "Goodbye Darkness, My Old Friend" (Isaiah 9:2)

Kate Season 1 Episode 23

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”  (Isaiah 9:2, ESV)

In Episode #023 of The Abidible Podcast, titled "Goodbye Darkness, My Old Friend," Kate explores Israel’s experience of darkness and exile as described in Isaiah 9:2, drawing a connection to our own experiences of spiritual and emotional darkness. Kate compares Israel’s descent into darkness due to sin and rebellion to how we, too, can drift into misery and separation from God. Just as Israel dwelt in “deep darkness” under Assyrian oppression, our own sin often leads us into a place of despair and distance from God’s light.

However, the story doesn’t end there. Isaiah 9:2 promises that “a great light” will shine on those in darkness, foreshadowing the coming of Jesus, the true Light. This light represents hope, forgiveness, and the restoration of God’s covenant with His people. His grace endures even amid judgment. Through Jesus, God brings His light to our darkest places, offering redemption through a new covenant that transforms both our hearts and minds.
